trying to explore this area so, is it actually possible to get onto the island at the far north? been trying for ages, theres a couple of places where it looks like you could get across but...

No there is not.
You are refering to the island with the huge tower/cliff formation and shrine on there i presume.
There are some shallow areas that looks like you could get across but you acctually can't. Just hug the shore and whateredges then you get some exploration of the island.

Dont think so, like many places u can explore by getting close but u cant actually step onto the area.
